A Day of Thrills: Wheelchair Basketball Association Partners with King Of The Court
On Saturday, June 29th, an extraordinary event unfolded at Velocity, Novena. The Wheelchair Basketball Association (WBA) teamed up with King Of The Court (KOTC), a cutting-edge media company leveraging AI to promote the 1v1 basketball format, for a day packed with excitement and inspiration. We are immensely grateful to KOTC for inviting us to showcase our sport at their vibrant outdoor court.
The atmosphere was electric as a diverse group of athletes and volunteers from WBA gathered, ready to demonstrate their skills and passion for wheelchair basketball. The event kicked off with an exhilarating Skills Challenge, where players deftly weaved through cones, displaying incredible agility and precision, as they aimed to score basket after basket. The sound of cheers and applause filled the air, adding to the high-energy environment.
Next up was the Team Shooting event, where participants, working in groups of four, remained in a stationary position, shooting as many baskets as possible within four intense minutes. The rhythmic sound of bouncing balls and the swish of successful shots echoed around the court, creating a symphony of competition and camaraderie.
The grand finale was a series of thrilling 2v2 matches. The pace was fast, the action relentless, and the crowd was on the edge of their seats. Every pass, every shot, and every defensive move was met with loud roars and enthusiastic support from the spectators.
Beyond showcasing the impressive teamwork and abilities of our WBA members, the event invited the public to join in the fun. Participants of all ages eagerly tried out the activities, their faces lighting up with joy and determination. Our WBA athletes and volunteers guided members of the public with basic instructions on how to push, turn, dribble, and ensure the safety of the chair. Tokens of appreciation were given to all participants, and our own WBA members proudly received medals for their stellar performances.
Throughout the two-hour showcase, large crowds of people, both young and old, gathered to witness the excitement. The sight of so many engaged and inspired faces fills us with hope that this increased awareness of wheelchair basketball will help us grow and expand our community.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to KOTC, Team Nila, and the enthusiastic students from Hoops For Hope for their invaluable assistance in facilitating this unforgettable event. We eagerly anticipate more collaborative efforts in the future, continuing to champion inclusivity and sportsmanship in everything we do.
