2024 PwC Cup: Wheelchair Basketball
Celebrating Diversity and Inclusion Through Wheelchair Basketball
Singapore, 22nd August 2024 – The PwC Cup, featuring a wheelchair basketball edition, turned into a thrilling showcase of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) on August 22nd. Hosted at Holland International School, this innovative event highlighted PwC’s commitment to shared experiences and inclusivity, driven by Emilio, a PwC staff member and WBA member who championed this collaboration.
The day kicked off with a comprehensive safety introduction to wheelchair basketball and an overview of the game’s rules. This was followed by an exciting demonstration of the 3x3 format featuring current WBA members Tommy, Edwin, Emilio, Michael, Hsu Wei, and Vanessa. Their display of skill and teamwork set the stage for the mini-competition ahead.
In the spirit of time and excitement, the participants dove straight into the action with a high-energy 3v3 half-court game at both ends of the court. The atmosphere was electrifying as players, initially confused but quickly organized, formed teams to compete. Team Captains Emilio, Edwin, Michael, and Tommy played a crucial role in guiding the players and ensuring a smooth flow of the games.
The competition was structured in a round-robin format, with teams A, B, and C competing on one half of the court and teams D, E, and F on the other. The games were fiercely contested, with both Team C and Team F emerging victorious from their respective halves.
A pizza party provided a welcome break, allowing everyone to relax and socialize before the final highlight of the day—a friendly showdown between 6 PwC players and 5 WBA players. In a spirited match, the WBA team triumphed, but the true victory lay in the celebration of sportsmanship, camaraderie, and mutual respect among all participants.
This memorable event underscored PwC’s dedication to DEI and showcased the power of sport to bring people together, fostering a more inclusive and connected community.
