Singapore, 16 November 2023 – In a significant nod to the sport and its athletes, wheelchair basketballer Dexter Goh was honored at the Singapore Disability Sports Awards (SDSA) 2023, receiving the Spirit of Sport (Male) award. Dexter, who has been a steadfast figure in wheelchair basketball for over twenty years, continues to demonstrate his passion for the sport by playing weekly at the age of 65.

The SDSA, a prestigious event organized by the Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC) and held at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre on 15 November, presented a record-breaking 14 awards this year. These awards recognized the remarkable contributions and achievements within the disability sports community, from grassroots initiatives to high-performance athletic accomplishments.

The ceremony not only acknowledged individual athletes like Dexter Goh but also celebrated the collective efforts that contribute to the thriving para-sports scene in Singapore. The event underscored the SDSC’s commitment to nurturing and recognizing talent across a spectrum of sports, with wheelchair basketball being a shining example.

Support from entities like Haw Par Corporation, which presented a $120,000 contribution to the SDSC, ensures that sports remain accessible and inclusive. This generous donation is set to enhance training and competitive opportunities, particularly benefiting the Boccia team and sustaining youth competitions in athletics and swimming.
