2024 IWBF Women's Repechage
Singapore, 7th March 2024 – We are thrilled to announce a significant event in the world of wheelchair basketball—the 2024 IWBF Women's Repechage Tournament. Set to unfold in Osaka, Japan, from April 17 to April 20, this pivotal competition is hosted by the Japanese Wheelchair Basketball Federation and marks the last chance for teams to secure their spot at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
The introduction of the 2024 IWBF Repechage Tournament represents a groundbreaking development in the sport. This inaugural event emerges in response to a revised qualification system aimed at ensuring the most competitive teams ascend to the Paralympic stage, following a reduction in team places for the Paris Games. With participation from teams across the globe who have yet to qualify through their Zonal Championships, the Repechage Tournament embodies the spirit of determination and excellence.
Among the qualified teams are host nation Japan, Paralympics host France, European powerhouses Spain and Germany, African representative Algeria, Asia Oceania’s Australia and Thailand, and Americas’ contender Canada. The top four teams will punch their ticket to Paris, setting the stage for an unforgettable showdown.
Adding to our pride, Shuet Mei Ho, from Singapore, has been selected as one of the 12 referees for this esteemed tournament. Her inclusion is a testament to the high standards and respect for the game within our community. We are incredibly proud of Shuet Mei Ho for representing Singapore on such a prestigious platform.
Let’s continue to embrace the values of sportsmanship, inclusion, and community as we move closer to a more inclusive society.
