2024 Outreach to Kone

Pioneering Progress at Kone HQ: Wheelchair Basketball Association's Inspiring Visit

Singapore, 13th May 2024 – In a significant stride towards fostering inclusivity and awareness, representatives from the Wheelchair Basketball Association (WBA), Farrhan, Thiru and Vanessa, were warmly welcomed at Kone's APA/Singapore headquarters. The visit on 13th May was marked by a shared enthusiasm from Kone staff members Claire, Geraldine, Sylvia, and others, highlighting the collaborative spirit of the event.

The WBA team presented an enlightening PowerPoint detailing the sport's dynamics and its impact on community integration. Highlighting their collaboration with MCCY and MSF, the presentation included a poignant video featuring Thiru from the "Singapore Together 2020" campaign, initiated post-COVID-19 to combat social isolation.

The visit also shed light on WBA’s significant local outreach in schools and public venues, which has garnered considerable recognition. On a regional scale, the team shared their experiences from international ventures that not only enhance visibility but also empower persons with disabilities (PWDs). These initiatives are pivotal in building character and resilience among athletes, inspiring them to reach their full potential.

Looking ahead, WBA outlined ambitious plans, including participating in the ASEAN Para Games 2029, slated to be hosted by Singapore for the second time. The team detailed strategic goals aimed at increasing funding and sponsorships, enhancing marketing efforts, forging strategic partnerships, and further developing athlete recruitment and event hosting capabilities.

Post-presentation, the WBA guests were taken on a tour of Kone's facilities, deepening their understanding of the corporate operations. The visit concluded with meaningful discussions on enhancing PWD considerations in Singapore, reinforcing the need for thoughtful engagement across all sectors.

As WBA looks forward to inviting Kone staff for a hands-on wheelchair basketball experience, this visit stands as a testament to the potential of sports in bridging gaps and building a more inclusive society.

Let’s rally behind these initiatives to create a supportive environment where every individual can thrive.
