Celebrating Inclusivity and Sportsmanship: The Inclusive Playdate Unveiled
Singapore, 9th August 2023 - The Inclusive Playdate, a four-day extravaganza brimming with passion, unity, and the spirit of inclusivity, recently captivated the hearts of participants from diverse backgrounds. Organized by the Wheelchair Basketball Association (WBA), Singapore Disability Sports Council and Sport Singapore, this event brought together individuals from various walks of life to share in the exhilaration of wheelchair basketball and other para sports.
Day 1: An Exhilarating Start
The journey began with Day 1, where the Wheelchair Basketball Association proudly represented the world of para sports alongside Suhaimi, dedicated friends from Cisco (including Grace), and the enthusiastic Team Nila and SerendipET members. The atmosphere was electric, filled with laughter, bonding, and the sheer joy of discovering wheelchair basketball. The event served as a heartwarming platform for sharing the sport with students and partners from diverse locales, fostering camaraderie and fun.
Day 2: Bridging Communities Through Sports
Day 2 of the Inclusive Playdate witnessed a remarkable coming together of communities. Police officers from the Singapore Police Force joined in the para sports activities, showcasing their enthusiasm and camaraderie. Additionally, the event welcomed valued partners from the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) for an unforgettable day of shared sportsmanship. Together with APSN and Jurong West Secondary School, the participants radiated smiles and infectious excitement, creating cherished memories. A friendly game with PS Tan Gee Keow added to the festivities, making it a truly memorable experience.
Day 3: Vitality in Diversity
The third day of the Inclusive Playdate was marked by the arrival of participants from VITAL (Ministry of Finance), injecting vitality and enthusiasm into the event. Tommy, an expert in wheelchair basketball, shared his passion for the sport with the participants. Engaging in shooting and dribbling exercises, the participants reveled in the joy of the game. A particularly heartwarming moment unfolded as one participant successfully picked up the basketball and made a triumphant shot. The day was a testament to the power of inclusivity and the boundless energy it ignites.
Day 4: Where Passion Meets Unity
The Inclusive Playdate culminated in a spectacular Day 4, where passion and unity came to life in vibrant hues. Jieru, an Occupational Therapist by day and a spirited wheelchair basketball supporter by night, guided the students from Chung Cheng High School (Main), fostering a truly inclusive environment. The event was further enriched by the spirited participation of SDSC volunteers Jing En, Marius, Charmayne, Nathaniel, Sofeena, and Syafinaz, who added an extra layer of dedication and warmth to every game. Their unwavering commitment to inclusivity breathed life into every moment, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
The Inclusive Playdate has indeed left an indelible mark, showcasing the power of sports in uniting communities, fostering inclusivity, and celebrating diversity.
