A Day of Collaboration: Wheelchair Basketball Association Partners with the College of Alice and Peter Tan

On 26th March 2023, a unique event unfolded at the National University of Singapore, as the Wheelchair Basketball Association (WBA) and the College of Alice and Peter Tan (CAPT) collaborated for the Community Engagement Sports Week (CESW). The aim was to extend sports beyond physical activity and foster interaction and learning among different communities.

The day began with an inspiring session led by national athlete Michael, who shared his journey and contributions to WBA, offering insights into wheelchair basketball. Attendees then learned how to effectively use wheelchairs, ensuring everyone could participate fully.

A history lesson on wheelchair basketball and an overview of the game's rules followed, leading to 3-vs-3 games. Students eagerly joined WBA volunteers and Michael on the court, guided by president Farrhan and volunteers Hsu Wei and Vanessa.

Despite initial challenges, students fearlessly embraced the game, showcasing teamwork and resilience. Cheers echoed as players scored baskets, fostering camaraderie among participants.

Throughout the event, students gained admiration for Michael's skills, developing a deeper appreciation for wheelchair users' abilities. Their shared experiences emphasised the importance of inclusivity and collaboration in sports.

As the day ended, participants reflected on their experiences, recognising the value of trying something new together. The collaboration between WBA and CAPT not only provided an opportunity for wheelchair basketball but also promoted unity and understanding.

Both organisations are committed to continuing their collaborative efforts, ensuring inclusivity and sportsmanship remain priorities. The impact of this event will inspire future generations to embrace diversity and the unifying power of sports.
