A Remarkable Journey Begins

In the world of wheelchair basketball, there are those who play the game and those who elevate it to new heights. Farrhan is dedicated to growing the sport and its community, he undoubtedly falls in both categories. His journey is a testament to the transformative power of passion, commitment, and a genuine desire to make a difference.

Rising Through Wheelchair Basketball

Farrhan's story begins with a serendipitous encounter with wheelchair basketball back in 2008 during his polytechnic days. What started as a curious foray into the sport soon became a deep-seated passion. Wheelchair basketball was the perfect amalgamation of his love for sports and his unwavering commitment to volunteering.

As an enthusiastic volunteer since his school days, Farrhan had already built a foundation of giving back to the community. He served as a reading buddy in primary school and hosted international students during his secondary school years. His genuine desire to share his love for reading and connect with people was evident early on.

Leading the Association

Farrhan's commitment to wheelchair basketball extends beyond the court. He recently took a career break in December 2022, dedicating his full attention to growing the Wheelchair Basketball Association (WBA). In this pro bono capacity, he collaborates closely with various government agencies and partners, including People's Association, National Council of Social Services, Singapore Disability Sports Association, and Sport Singapore. Under his leadership, numerous key events were successfully organized, from the Jakarta Swift Training Camp 2023 to the Inclusive Playdate. These initiatives have played a pivotal role in raising awareness and promoting para sports.

Farrhan's leadership extends beyond event organization. He has presided over the Annual General Meeting and secured re-election as President of the Wheelchair Basketball Association (Singapore). His strategic discussions with SDSC regarding the ASEAN Para Games 2029 reflect his commitment to the sport's growth. Farrhan successfully led the migration to Google Workspace, improving operational efficiency and ensuring the association's sustainability.

A Lifelong Learner and Skill Developer

Even while dedicating time to voluntary work, Farrhan invests in his professional growth. Enrolled in the Skillsfuture Career Transition Programme (Software Engineering) by National Technological University, he also participates in the GetReadySG Train-And-Place program by Generation Singapore, aimed at acquiring skills for a Full Stack Developer role. His commitment to education shines through in his pursuit of a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Information Technology and Business (ERP) at the Singapore University of Social Sciences, spanning from August 2023 to July 2026.

In the world of wheelchair basketball, Farrhan is not just a player; he is a leader, a visionary, and an inspiration. His multifaceted commitment to voluntary work, leadership, education, and skills development underscores his dedication to personal and community growth. His contributions have made a meaningful impact on promoting para sports and enhancing the well-being of individuals with disabilities in Singapore. Farrhan's journey is a testament to the incredible impact one person can have when fuelled by a sincere commitment to giving back.
